We hope you all had a GREAT Christmas and New Year! Be sure to mark you 2011 calendar for the Zone 6 (Southcentral Zone) Shoot, April 14-17. It is sure to be the biggest and best zone shoot of the year! With 10 events to chose from, and 1100 targets to be had, you will not find yourself bored at Fossil Pointe. New courses are being developed for this shoot to provide you with a fresh look at the property. We will have games, food and lots of fun for everyone.

Also, we will be adding a new concurrent category to the Main event. It will be a Club Team Concurrent. A club can sponsor a team of four, and the high score amongst the teams wins. More rules can be found on the Club Team Form that will be on the website this week. The entry will be $10 and the winning club will receive a custom trophy.

Registration can be done quick and easy at winscoreonline.com. A printable form, along with other information such as sponsorship opportunities, hotel, and restraunt info can be found at our website. If you have any questions, or if we can help in any way, please feel free to contact us.

Who are going to set the targets for this shoot?
Can we expect target setting of Championship level as normally Fossil Pointe do?

I will be setting targets for the Main Event. I have set a lot of targets here at Fossil Pointe and I have some new ideas for Zone. I will have safe, fun, and fair targets for everyone. If you have ever been to a shoot at Fossil Pointe you know how much effort goes into the details to give you the best experience possible. If the 2011 Zone 6 will be your first visit with us, then we hope to impress you not only with the terrain and facilities, but also with the quality of tournament we provide.

If you have not shot at Fossil Pointe, you're really missing a great expereince. David and his crew do a wonderful job taking advantage of all the options his spread offers for creative target setting. Great folks and great place to shoot!

Hello Folks,

Less than a week to go and we are well over 300 entrants. We have been working hard to get the grounds ready and the courses in top shape. I think those of you shooting the Prelim and Subguages will really enjoy the creek courses.

ATTENTION: For those of you coming from Denton or Sanger (FM 1173/FM455), please allow an extra 10 minutes to you travel time. There has been ongoing construction and sometimes traffic will be stopped for a few minutes. This will only be on Thursday and Friday. Those coming from Decatur or Gainesville are fine.

Friday Night P-I-G Shootout- We are going to try something new and fun in an effort to raise money for the 2011 Team USA. On Friday evening we are going to have a good 'ole fashioned game of PIG. It's just like playing HORSE on the basketball court. If you have a trick shot and hit a target then everyone else attempts it. If they miss, then they get the letter P. The first one to miss and get all the letters is out. Etc.. There is no qualifying, just sign up with the $30 buy-in. All of the proceeds will benefit the 2011 Team USA. We already have four signed up, so bring your A game.

There have been some questions regarding reloads and the new rule change. I have spoken with Robert Crow and Mike Hampton Jr., and reloads will still be allowed for this shoot. HOWEVER; as per our flyer and registration forms, reloads will only be allowed for the subguage events.

First big shoot I and my squadmates have ever been to and man was it awesome. We didn't shoot well, but everything was fantastic. Thanks for such a good time, Fossil Pointe. We will definitely be back.

Very enjoyable time at the Zone 6 this weekend. My usual post-event rundown follows:

Registration: A
Food-B good quality but a bit pricey considering the captive audience would have to travel 15 miles to get back town.
Facilites-A
Targets-Main: Grade of C+, a seeming preponderance of quartering and trap type targets, which on Sunday were brutally affected by severe winds. I am a big fan of using towers for big targets and the towers on both mains were used unusually to say the least. Quartering outgoing overheads on the Green and a nasty down angling bird on White. Whats wrong with a big 50 yard+ crosser off a lift? Brian Hughe's 94 on Green on Sunday is a huge score given the conditionis.
              5-stand- Grade A, good variety and mix of targets in the reports and true pairs. Nothing silly with reasonable time to approach each bird of the pair. Wind affected scores again but thats is mother nature. Justin Fox's 98 was a sick sick score.
              FITASC-Grade A- a Good mix of targets. Andy Duffy shot great as he was chased by some v.good scores.
Referrees: On the main, some were a bit green and needed help. The wind played havoc with the score cards and the master score sheet. All were courteous and many were knowledegable.
                  FITASC- excellent on all 4 parcours, though I tire of the repetition of calling out each bird on the menu. The shooter ought to be responsible for knowing what bierd is next and where its coming from.
                  5-stand- overall very competeitn to excellent.

All in all I enjoyed the shoot and my scores showed it. I think Fossil Point is a great shooting ground and worth the drive. I encourage all the Houston shooters and others who feel it is too far to go and visit. It is worth the trip. David and Maryam do a great job and deserve our continued support.

I am an original attendee of Fossil Pointe. The facility clearly showed me it would be one of our best.

However target presentation slowly began to turn my entertainment dollars to other facilities.

I returned for Zone 6 because targets were to be set for everyone.

David, in this shooters opinion you moved up the target setting ladder to the level of Jon Kruger, Scott Robertson (Elm Fork), Brian Hughes (Dallas Gun Club) and Mike Lewellen (Lone Star). Target setters which clearly show long is not the only way to set challenging presentations. For that I say THANK YOU Fossil Pointe.

Food A+ $6.50 - 7.50 good value.

New Facilities A+

Look forward to returning

Congratulations to David and Maryam Niederer for running an awesome shoot. Even with winds gusting over 50 mph, the event was handled with professionalism and attention to detail. Spot on and well done. How about a US Open?

I forgot to mention that Dave also organized a trick shooting contest on Saturday afternoon that raised over $700 to benefit Team USA. Travis Mears won the contest with a nice between-the-legs shot on a 30 yrd. belly crosser.

I think Fossil Point would be an excellent choice to host a US open.
Beautiful terrain, close proximity to major airports, Hotels within reasonable distance and a great support staff that knows what it takes to put on a major shoot.

Hopefully Fossil Point will bid for a US open in the near future.
