The Euro Class System

by Maxey Brantley

The Euro Class System is a system using the scores fired by competitors during the tournament to classify each shooter into one of three classifications, Class A, Class B, or Class C. It allows shooters of different shooting Associations with dissimilar classification systems, new shooters and seasoned competitors alike to compete equitably with each other, based on their performance during the competition.

The Euro Class System allows Match Directors to predict the number of entries and determine an equitable awards program for all shooters, based on the number of projected participants, rather than a number of projected participants with an unknown distribution of "official" classifications. The Euro Class System allows shooters to be competitive for awards regardless of their performance during the match. The system makes it difficult for any shooter to attempt to assure him/herself a lower classification than their ability would normally dictate. Shooters having a bad match, or wishing to try new equipment or techniques are still competitive for awards. It precludes new shooters from being classified into a higher classification until a prescribed number of targets are fired to determine an "official" classification. It also negates the practice of combining shooters in "official" classes, AA and A, B and C, D and E, etc
