On August
28, 2011 the Greenbelt Pheasants Forever chapter hosted a sporting clay shoot at the Pine Lake Wildlife Club near Eldora. Entrants came from around Central Iowa and even Wisconsin to compete in this fun shoot event to help raise funds for youth programs in Hardin County. We started off with great weather and then had a brief shower only to break again and continue shooting with great weather to finish the day.
The sporting clay course was made up of a 5 station two traps per station course nested in the terrain of the Pine Lake Wildlife Club. All entrants shot a round of one hundred targets and shot a different presentation for the second 50 targets on the same 5 station lay out.
Local trap team members from South Hardin FFA and Middle school team along with members from AGWSR trap teams were available to operate trap machines and keep score for the shooters.
This year we
ran a 4 trap flurry shot with different trajectories, where targets were thrown
until each entrant, up to four, ran out of ammo. A drawing was held for entering this fun
event. Patrick Beireman of Steamboat
rock won a Cabela’s gift card and Austin Ubben won a dog bed.
A new event was added also this year called the Greenbelt challenge. In this event adults and youth under 17 years of age where invited to team up for a total of 200 targets on the sporting course. The winners this year are Troy and Lucas Duff of State Center. They were given complimentary tickets to our upcoming banquet on September 22 held at the Hardin County fairgrounds.
A door prize drawing was also held for entrants attending our event.
Traps used were donated by Deb and Keith England, Tim Borton, Darren Sellers, Carla and Phil Eller, Targets on the Move and Coyote Run.
